“Well, you’re a good little pig, and radiant you shall be.”1
Wilbur imitates Charlotte by trying to weave a web but discovers he’s ill- equipped. Despite his sincerest exertions, being a web weaver is simply not a part of his identity. Happily, the words Charlotte cast become the foundations of who Wilbur really is. He becomes the “Some Pig” that turns the community upside down. He acts “terrific” and “radiant” once he is named as such, and in the end, is the essence of a humble personality that wins the grand prize.
Some Pig | Terrific | Radiant | Humble
God speaks words of life over His children as well. We are who He says we are. The time is now to jettison lies formed in us from others and to embrace what God says about us. If we don’t, we will flop around in life without direction like Wilbur outside his pen. Without the security of knowing that our true identity is found in Christ, we will be prone to more defensiveness, jealousy, and even resentfulness of others we perceive as being more intelligent, talented, attractive, or more accomplished than we are.
But if you know the Lord your Maker, you’ll gain a growing understanding of your intrinsic value. Your identity and calling are based on what or in whom your trust lays. Knowing you are eternally and completely loved by the Almighty Creator, redeemed by His Son, and sealed for heaven roots you in the solid soil of a secure identity. Having these truths planted deep in the innermost self allows our true personality to blossom and the lies of the enemy to wither away. Nourished by God’s words of life, we are becoming who we are meant to be.
After Jesus rose from the dead, He talked to Peter privately by the shore. He called him by his old name, Simon, to emphasize that he was no longer held by the old identity. He became Peter, the rock, and that meant getting busy doing what his new identity compelled. This, too, is our charge.
Prayer: Awesome Designer, I trust that You know me and love me. You made me in Your image. Show me who I am in You and how to refute the negative voices from the devil, myself, and others who would say I am not who You say I am.
Radiant Action: I will listen on Youtube.com to the song “You Say” by Lauren Daigle.
