When he heard that the price was only six dollars, he said he would buy the pig.

Mr. Zuckerman thinks he can make money on the six dollars he invests in the runt but can’t imagine how his investment will eventually pay out. Dividends can be collected from intangibles too. How we earn our bread and how we use it reveal much about character and the values of the heart.

Financial Principles:

  1. Be alert and resourceful. Charlotte catches her own dinner while Wilbur waits to be served.
  2. “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have” (Heb. 13:5).
  3. Don’t borrow: “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender” (Prov. 22:7). “Owe no one anything” (Rom. 13:8).
  4. “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matt. 6:20).
  5. Believe that “God shall supply all your need according to his riches” (Phil. 4:19 KJV).
  6. The Lord gives the power to gain wealth (see Deut. 8:18).
  7. Practice “godliness with contentment” (1 Tim. 6:6), for Jesus “will never leave you nor forsake you” (Heb. 13:5).
  8. Work (2 Thess. 3:10), but don’t overwork (Prov. 23:4).

Prayer: Thank You, God, for giving me exactly what I need for each day. Make me wise and rich in every way so I can share generously with others.
