Charlotte’s web never looked more beautiful . . .
Each strand held dozens of bright drops of early morning dew.

As Fern runs to intervene and prevent Wilbur’s untimely death, her tennis shoes are sopping wet with early morning spring dew. Dew can be a reminder of the anointing we need from God to work out our purpose. Anointing is the empowering by the Holy Spirit that enables us to follow through effectively on a mission. Jesus was anointed to finish His work. Whether we are bricklayers, artists, pastors, or nurses—whatever our vocation—we need God’s anointing to finish the job. He has promised His power: “But you have been anointed by the Holy One” (1 John 2:20).

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18–19 NKJV).

Prayer: Lord, fill me with Your Spirit, anoint me with Your power, to fulfill the work you call me to do. May You give me of the dew of heaven (see Gen. 27:28). I plead for the power of the Spirit—the anointing.
